Schedule of daily flights

A. Cebu Pacific - PhP2,099.00 one-way; 3 flights daily

Manila to Tacloban: 0610 AM, 1210 PM, and 0200 PM
Tacloban to Manila: 0800 AM, 0200 PM, and 0400 PM

B. Philippine Air Lines - PhP2,398.00 one-way; 2 flights daily

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

PAL has a 3-day advance ticket purchase promo until September 30. The fare is reduced to PHP 1,398.00 (save PHP1,000.00) one-way. But booking is only until October 23 afterwards the fare goes back to PHP 2,398.00 one-way.

Manila to Tacloban: 0520 AM and 0245 PM
Tacloban to Manila: 0735 AM and 0440 PM

ADVISORY

Assembly at Tacloban Airport is 8:00 AM October 25 Wednesday.

Those flying to Tacloban must take either the 0610 AM Cebu Pacific, or the 0520 AM PAL flight for October 25 Wednesday.

The climb could either be a 4- or 5-day climb. The travel time from the terminal point in Baybay back to Tacloban is not yet known. All these information will be available to us next week.

For those who will go back to Manila immediately after the induction climb (for purposes of booking the return flight),

  1. Assume that it will be a 5-day climb. Furthermore, assume that we will arrive at Tacloban late in the afternoon of October 29 Sunday.
  2. Take either the 0800 AM Cebu Pacific, or 0735 AM PAL flight for October 30 Monday.

Please inform us of your travel plans ASAP.

We have reserved 60 seats of the 0610 AM Cebu Pacific flight for October 25 Wednesday through Noemi Baltazar - Tiongco (Batch 1992).

The deal with Cebu Pacific is for us to buy entire ticket booklets consisting of 11 tickets each. A booklet costs PHP 19,350.00.

One-way fare is PHP2,099; a ticket from a booklet costs PHP 1,759.00 which is cheaper by 16% or equivalent to a PHP 340.00 savings.

INDUCTION CLIMB Q&A

Q: Is it okay to book a flight with PAL instead of Cebu Pacific?

A: Yes, but be sure to inform us (Bajay & Noemi) ASAP so that we can update the reservation we made with Cebu Pacific.

For us to avail of the 3-day advance ticket purchase promo, we have to buy he tickets on or before September 30.

The October 23 booking deadline refers to the last day the purchased ticket under the promo can be used.

We got some more information yesterday about fare discounts from the PAL Web site.

Group Fare

20% off the normal Economy fare for groups of at least 15 passengers travelling together on the same outbound flights. However, they need not travel together on the return flight. The group leader must secure a "Group Travel Plan Request" from any of our Ticket Offices at least 24 hours before flight departure. Fare is valid only during the months of February, July, August, September and October.

Valid on: Economy ticket - round trip

Attached is a document on how to go to Tacloban by air, land and sea. It includes the schedules, fares, and outbound itineraries.

IMPORTANT! You cannot leave Manila later than the schedules specified in the outbound itineraries. The outbound itineraries are based on the latest departure schedule from Manila. Alternative schedules are provided in case you want to leave Manila earlier.

"The best!" In a nutshell, this was how Manny described the route they have set across the mountain ranges of Leyte from Buraen to Baybay.

Reservation with Cebu Pacific

We have reserved 60 seats of the 0610 AM Cebu Pacific flight for October 25 Wednesday through Noemi Baltazar - Tiongco (Batch 1992).

The deal with Cebu Pacific is for us to buy entire ticket booklets consisting of 11 tickets each. A booklet costs PHP 19,350.00.

One-way fare is PHP 2,099; a ticket from a booklet costs PHP 1,759.00 which is cheaper by 16% or equivalent to a PHP 340.00 savings.

Cebu Pacific has given us until October 7 to buy the ticket booklets. This is to give them time to open the reservation to other passengers in case we cannot fill up the 60 seats.

We are encouraging those who are sure to join the induction climb especially members to organize yourselves into groups of 11 and buy the booklets.  For a group of 11, you need to buy 2 booklets.  Your group can buy the ticket through Noemi.

You have to inform us (Bajay) of your travel plans ASAP so that we can monitor properly the departure and arrival of participants to and from Tacloban. Also, we need to update the 60-seat reservation we have with Cebu Pacific. So tawag na po o kaya mag E-mail na!

Attached are the updated induction climb group listings, and outbound itineraries.

Flying with Philippine Air Lines

The group fare discount of 20% on economy fare can only be availed if and only if,

  1. There are at least 15 persons in the group.
  2. The group have to buy round trip tickets. Cost: PHP 3996.00, add PHP 145.00 miscellaneous fees.
  3. The group must travel together on the same outbound flight. They need not travel together on the return flight.
  4. The group must submit a group travel plan request to any of PAL's ticket offices at least 24 hours before flight departure.

    The request should include the names of the persons in the group, address, flight schedules, etc. For the outbound flight it is the same for everybody - October 25 0520H. The return flight could be at different schedules.

    The request is subject for approval by PAL. If approved, buy the tickets at the designated ticket office.

Flying with Cebu Pacific

One-way undiscounted fare is PHP 2,099 while a ticket from a booklet only costs PHP 1,759.00 which is cheaper by 16% (PHP 340.00).

IMPORTANT REMINDER! Cebu Pacific has given us only until October 7 to buy the ticket booklets. This is to give them time to open the reservation to other passengers in case we cannot fill up the 60 seats.

How to do it

  1. Organize yourselves into groups of 11. If your group will ride the plane back to Manila, then you need to buy 2 booklets.
  2. Submit your list to Bajay (that's me) by phone or E-mail. Identify who will buy the tickets; indicate his or her contact nos. and E-mail address. Also include the Cebu Pacific ticket office where you intend to buy the tickets.

    If your group is less than 11, then submit your group list just the same. Bajay will combine small groups to create groups of 11 people.

  3. Bajay will call your point person as soon as it is processed by Noemi. Afterwhich, he or she may go to the Cebu Pacific ticket office to buy the tickets.

Fellow AMCI Members & BMC 2000 Inductees,

The final pre-climb meeting for the Leyte induction climb is October 18.

SIDE TRIP CLOTHES & FUEL

Participants are required to submit the following on October 18:

  1. Side trip clothes - package your stuff properly, put your name on it; preferrably, your induction group's clothes should be together in just one big bag or plastic bag (put a label on it, for ex. Group#1).
  2. Fuel for the stoves and lamps (e.g., cartridges, lighter fluid, etc.) - again, your induction group's fuel should be together in just one bag or plastic properly labelled; make sure it won't leak especially the lighter fluid.

The side trip clothes and fuel will be collected and transported to Leyte by Bigfoot Yanga & Co. by boat. They will leave on October 22 Sunday. The side trip clothes will be deposited in Ormoc while the fuel will be brought to Tacloban where all of us will meet on October 25 Wednesday.

TRANSPORTATION & OTHER EXPENSES WITHIN LEYTE

The budget for transportation and other expenses within Leyte is PHP 700. Jo Cuarteros will start collecting the amount this weekend. Please pay on or before October 18.
